Thanks to Luke Pirie for the photos.
It's here again. Yus, the legendary Dunedin Winter Solstice is upon us one more time. Saturday 21 June. It is close; I can feel the need to dance outdoors as my bones creak this winter. So let's shake off the blues and put our dance shoes on - you know, the ones that are at the back of the summertime cupboard. Let's dance the sunlight back into the sky and celebrate the longest night of the year.
Once again we are happy to announce that the Winter Solstice is at Whare Flat, a heaven away from home. Whare Flat is in a sheltered manuka glade that rings with native birdsong. There are hundreds of potential campsites and places to explore. Last year's location was just too good to not go there again, and this time we are spicing it up a little more and re-orientating the dance floor. Just to keep it interesting. The musical line up is a mix of styles, from old skool trance to drum n bass, a mashup of tech house and breaks, dubstep and most things in between.
As many can remember from previous years weather conditions, last year it was the snow and in 2006 the epic -12 degrees in Middlemarch, it's GONNA BE COOL NIGHT. So be prepared, dress warmly and fuzzily, bring gumboots and wet weather gear. However, there is a massive hall we are using with a huge heat pump and fireplace so if the dancefloor gets a little cool then lush it out in this ambient zone, where there?s hot food, coffee and a whole lotta goodness. We will also have a tribal zone, which will be magik with a giant firepit, chai in a teepee and a monsta mashup drumming session.
We promise it's gonna be another epic night to remember, so come along no matter what, and don't forget to stay for the sunrise and the free hangi to re-energize you for the morning stomp.
Tickets are available at Cosmic Corner for $15 + BF, on the door for $20 or from Dan for $15 - text 021 117 6695...
Spread the word, the Winter Solstice is nearly upon us so let's dance the sun god back up into the sky and celebrate this monumental occasion together.
