Environment: This year will mark the 12th anniversary of New Year events at Canaan Downs. So there is a deep sense of excitement amongst the collective crew of Canaan Downs Festival as we prepare to take the party to the hill one more time.
Old hands or first timers the anticipation of New Year at Canaan Downs is always steeped in history and wrapped in myth and legend.
This years Festival is unavoidably part of the continuing story, part of the ongoing journey to Canaan that has continues to capture the imagination of our generation.
For many people around New Zealand and the world, celebrating New Year at Canaan Downs has become a definitive moment in their lives. The location, the land, the events that have occurred there are significant to us, to who we are as individuals, to the way we see ourselves collectively.
Surrounded by native bush, lime stone rocks, rolling grass lands, at the end of a long road, high on a mountain, at the top of an island, in the centre of a country cast far into the pacific ocean its is not hard to recognise why people identify Canaan Downs as a special place.
Performance Crew, Starlight Cinema and the Culture Trail. Also don't forget the Kidzone and of course the heart of the party Tribe Vibe. Plenty of treats for eveyone at Canaan Downs.
Facilities: General free camping facilities, portaloos, running water but best to bring your own as well. No cell phone coverage. There willl be eftpos but bring cash too. "The Festival site is about 1100m above sea level. Exposure to the elements is inevitable.
Bring plenty of warm clothing, and be aware that the weather can change very quickly. Camping space is plentiful. Come early to get the sweet spots. Please only camp in designated areas and follow the directions of the on-site Festival staff. There is about a 5 minute walk from the camping area to the Festival village.
Please keep within the boundaries of the festival, and as you wander around during the day or night be careful of obstacles and natural hazards."
