Outdoor Styles

Aotearoa Outdoor Styles

Outdoor Music Festivals are more than just outdoor gigs, they are an environment and an experience.

The phrase "Outdoor Styles" comes from Salmonella Dub, who were a huge influence on the roots of Outdoor Music Festivals in New Zealand. The track Outdoor Styles features on their Remixes and radio Cuts and Colonial Dubs EP releases. Salmonella Dub has featured The Gathering in their music videos (ie. For the love of it off the legendary Killervision album. > Watch it). They have featured in the line up of so many legendary outdoor music festivals from the late 1990's, often being posted as the headline act. In addition to this, Salmonella Dub joined the "Outdoor Styles" tour of 2001.

So it is with much love and respect that we use their term for creating interest and excitement about the Aotearoa Outdoor Style through this website.

Which Events "Qualify" for outdoorstyles.co.nz?

Well.. it's getting harder to say! This is open for debate. The number of festivals taking place around New Zealand has soared dramatically. Many of these events now enjoy the huge budgets common to international events. However, there is still the beautiful underground of people willing to risk their life savings on creating a small event for the people around them. In reality, these are now the events I feel the push to promote.
